The grand opening of the 2 week 'Youth Central' Exhibition took place over the summer in the Vale of Glamorgan gallery 'Art Central'. The exhibition brought together young people's art, performance pieces, film, music and more from across Barry. Vibe Experience, The Memorial Hall and Theatre, Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan Council worked together with local schools and young people to create this exciting exhibition.

Young artists, performers, friends and relatives were invited from across Barry to attend the opening night.  Guests were treated to the first glimpse of exhibition, as well as performances from Vibe Experience's 'V-Troop' dancers and rap artist Kyle Fettah. The Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan also gave a great thank you to all the young people involved, as without them the exhibition would not have been possible.

This celebration of young people showcases creative pieces from Bryn Hafren and Barry Comprehensive Schools, Barry College, Vibe Experience and an outstandingly large band sculpture created by Jenner Park Primary School at the Memorial Hall. The exhibition had seven themes, 'Self Portraiture and Expression', 'By The Seaside', 'Our World', 'Urban Times', 'The Street', 'Music Mix' and the 'Film Theatre'.

'Self Portraiture and Expression' was an interesting display of self image and experiences through the eyes of young people. A delightful, colourful display of sea inspired head pieces, batiks and coral like ceramics were on offer 'By The Seaside'. 'Our World' and 'Urban Times' took you through an artistic journey of cultures, and a series of photographs and mixed media highlighting the urbanisation of our planet. In 'The Street' demonstrated the influence of street based culture, familiar to the youth of today. The 'Film Theatre' invited you to take a seat and enjoy the showcase of films created by local young people. Finally the 'Music Mix', and what a mix it was! From music videos of young rap artists, to rock garments and a larger than life band sculpture. The sculpture was created especially for the exhibition and gave children in Jenner Park Primary school an opportunity to get there hands dirty and find a use for any unwanted rubbish and car parts!

Vibe Experience said "It was really fantastic to see all the pieces come together and showcase the talents of young people in Barry, we are privileged to be involved in the project. The standard of work was extremely high and certainly deserved to be celebrated in a gallery as beautiful as Art Central".
