Winter Fun Or Winter Fury?

Snow covers the Vale of Glamorgan on Wednesday 6th Januray 2010!

I have awoken today to find a blanket of beautiful thick white snow covering the Vale of Glamorgan, house tops, cars and bins, little has been left untouched. It's a rare site for my eyes! We've all been watching the news from across the UK... heaviest snowfall for years!.... coldest temperatures yet!.... schools closed... roads closed... everything comes to a halt.  So the question is - does the snow bring winter fun or winter fury?

Children and young people all over the country can't quite believe their luck. Not only has it snowed across the Vale of Glamorgan, many of the schools have closed too. I can almost hear the screams of laughter from the street and gardens. Who can make the biggest best snowman? How many people can you get with a snowball? "I love the snow!" young people shout.

But where there is 'ying' there's 'yang'. Although the council are busy gritting roads, driving can be dangerous. The freezing temperatures are tough for the homeless, the elderly and those who can't afford to heat their homes. Motorways close and flights cancelled to the sadness and frustration of travellers.

The Vale of Glamorgan is lucky in a way, snow may be bitter sweet, but it doesn't come around very often! Soon all the white will be gone... back to school, back to work, back on the road. A distant memory - "Remember the snow in 2010?" Snow for a day or an hour, we will still have lots and lots of fun whilst it's here!!!
