The Selby Brothers- Boxing Is In Their Blood
Two brothers, one passion; BOXING. Barry is the proud town of two young gifted boxers that are representing not only the Vale but the whole of the UK in the sporting world. Lee & Andrew Selby are two brothers that are taking the boxing world by storm and this year marks huge events for both brothers.
Lee; the eldest brother, started his professional l career in 2008 and his boxing record holds a total of 12 fights, 11 wins, 1 loss; and in that period of time he has gone on to become the British & Commonwealth Featherweight Champion and also holds belts in the Welsh & Celtic Featherweight Division. The well renowned Boxing Monthly magazine voted Lee 'Boxer of The Year 2011' Lee will take to the Newport Sports Centre on May 25th 2012 to defend his British & Commonwealth Featherweight title, his first fight back on Welsh turf since July 2011, and was quoted talking of thee event “It's great to be back in Wales and fighting in front of my fans, I'm keeping hold of these belts for as long as possible – there is no way I am letting them go”
He is currently in Las Vegas at the Floyd Mayweather Gym where the infamous pound for pound undisputed champion Floyd Mayweather trains himself, where they will both be sparring and training getting themselves prepared as both boxers will be fighting this month.
Andrew is also in preparation for a big year ahead as he will be representing Team Great Britain in this years London 2012 Olympics. Andrew has one of thee most impressive medal collections in the team GB Boxing Squad as he holds a bronze medal at the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 and again in Moscow in 2010. 2011 saw him make the finals of the World Championships winning silver, then in June 2011, Andrew alongside fellow Welshman Fred Evans, become he first Welsh man in 86 years to win the European Championship, Andrew is currently ranked 2 in AIBA's World Rankings.
Its clear to see from the track record for both brothers that boxing is in their blood with both having bright and amazing futures ahead of them in such a respected sport and it's going to be great to see them both fly the Welsh flag in pride.
