Relationships: Respect your Parents
A relationship isn't just about boyfriends and girlfriends, there's lots of different relationships. There's the relationships you share with your friends, with your family, your teacher, your boss, your neighbour and even your pet I suppose.
The definition of relationship is the state of connectedness between people. Some relationships matter more to us than others though! Many young people will feel that some relationships matter most, taking priority, but in all reality these probably won't last or exist within the next few years. In other words relationships and friends can be fickle at times!
In my opinion the relationship with my parents is the most important, but I worry I push them away to spend more time with my friends, and I don't even realise I'm doing it! I know lots of my friends could relate to this too - constantly arguing with our parents, disagreeing with them, shouting at them, thinking we know best!
When I've been up to something or been bad in some way they say "I wouldn't have got away with that when I was your age", to which I just roll eyes and take absolutely no notice. But I do hate the fact that I show this much disrespect towards my parents at times.
As young people, we shouldn't take the relationships with our family for granted, although we almost always do. But that is besides the point. Our relationship with our parents is the most important relationship in our life, more important than any boyfriend, girlfriend or best friend.
Think over the years how much our may have parents may have done for us and they won't be around forever either. Young people really should think about having good happy relationships with their parents and start showing them more respect. I hope when I grow up to have children they do the same for me.
