Yn Gymraeg

Hello, my name is Charlotte.

I am in year 10 at St. Richard Gwyn School and I have been doing my work experience placement at ProMo-Cymru.

They are a big organisation aimed at young people in Wales with projects such as CLIC and The Sprout.

These projects are aimed at young people in Wales and provide information about different events and news all over Wales.

If you become a member of one of their websites you can upload events that you think other young people might enjoy or submit news about something in the news or even something you would like people to know about. You can even upload pictures or artwork you have done for other people to see and comment on.

On my first day I was shown around the office and briefed about all the boring but essential things like Health and Safety. After that I got to talk to some of the staff about what they do and what they are involved in. All the staff were really nice and made me feel very welcome.

For my first assignment, as I like to call it, I had to write an article for the CLIC website about teaching music using some information I had been given. It was great because I could write however I wanted and make it fun and fresh and exciting. When I finished I had to research some events that I could add to the Events Calendar.

On my second day I got to speak to more members of staff about their jobs and what they enjoy about them. I was then told to upload more news and events onto the website. To do this I had to research lots of interesting events in Wales. Once I had finished that I explored the website and found out how to create a theme so I could personalise my page.

The next day I was taught how to use a professional camera and what each setting does and how it affects the picture. I then headed out into Cardiff Bay to take some pictures. When I got back I made a video using my pictures and adding sound to make it interesting. I then had to type up the notes taken from a meeting for The Sprout editorial group so it could be emailed to everyone who attended.

The following day I got to finish my video. I then helped a member of staff prepare some questionnaires and information sheets for a presentation that I had to laminate. They then took me to visit a nearby high school to meet a group of young children who helped us with ideas for the new website being designed all about drugs information.

For my final day (makes me want to cry) I wrote a comment encouraging people to contribute to Red Nose Day. I then went on a small adventure with some colleagues across the Bay to the Millennium Centre where we attended a workshop about interactive media. As much as I’d like to say it was fun I can’t because then I would be telling lies. The workshop was more like being in school and getting a long, tiring lecture in some strange language. I had to hold back my yawns so I looked like I was paying attention.

I then got a visit from my teacher who came to see how I had been doing and what I had been up to. He seemed very impressed and thought I had done a great job which is good for me. My final task is to write this article all about my amazing work experience and upload it with the video I made during the week.

So to tie it all up I had a wonderful time and would definitely do it again. Thank you to everyone who made it great experience for me and I hope to see you all again soon.

The video attached is the one I made during my work experience so please take a look and tell me what you think.

If you would like to come to ProMo-Cymru for a week, please contact Pat Green: pat@promo-cymru.org / 029 2046 2222.

Sorry that Media talk on the Friday was so boring (don't worry - I was falling asleep too!). It sounded much more interesting in the email. :/

I hope you enjoyed your work experience and will keep on writing/making stuff for CLIC. :)

Glad you enjoyed, Charlotte. The interactive media panel were the least interesting of the whole day unfortunately!

We hope you will continue to write for CLIC, and like Jess says, you're very welcome to join the Swoosh crew at their next meeting.

Was cool to meet you Charlotte! Love the pictures of the bay too, especially the train bit!

Got something to say?
