MUSIC REVIEW: Biffy Clyro - 'Only Revolutions'
The best album I’ve ever heard! Each song is different and unique, but just as good as each other. It’s very rare to find an album that I like every single song on, Biffy have finally done it.
The rock group have made their fifth album, following ‘Puzzle’. They had a lot to live up to if they wanted to make an album that would rival ‘Puzzle’. In my opinion they totally exceeded any expectations of this new album.
This CD features twelve songs, all different, and all amazing. The best song on the album is ‘Bubbles’, with catchy music and lyrics, it is a fun song to listen to. Biffy have stuck to some of their quirky attributes, for example ‘Cloud of Stink’ is very alternative. Although the lyrics don’t make much sense, it’s a good song to listen to. It’s very different and out there.
Lead singer Simon Neil shows off his softer side in ‘Many of Horror’. This song is about a very heartfelt love story that is falling apart. The lyrics are clever and meaningful. As well having songs that are quirky and different. Biffy have commercialised a bit, you can hear this on some of the songs on ‘Only Revolutions’ such as ‘Boooom, Blast and Ruin’ and ‘Mountains’. Although these songs are still amazing, Biffy let their quirky side down a bit and relaxed into a more pop rock genre for a few tracks.
They use a lot of classical sounding instrumentals such as violins along with the drums and guitar which sound amazing. The instrumental at the end of ‘Bubbles’ is really good. It has that classical sound, but up to date and rocky.
Over all ‘Only Revolutions’ is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. Every song is amazing in its own way. Biffy have done it again, created an album that will be listened to over and over for a long time.
