Lights! Camera! Action! For Swoosh Editorial Group!

Members of the Swoosh Editorial Group were certainly kept busy over the recent half term break with a creative multimedia workshop day held in partnership with the Vale Youth Service.

The members Adam Phillips, Lloyd Adams, Emily Peters, Megan Pudney, Kayleigh Hunt, Emyr Lewis and Saffia Hurley worked on filming and editing techniques, script writing and creative writing and put together a fantastic film of a recent activity day at Go Ape in Margam Park, as well as creating a 60 second film to promote the Swoosh website and the editorial group as a whole. Both of which will be featured on the website this week

The group took full advantage of the V-POD, the award winning multimedia mobile youth bus, by filming pieces to camera in the plush surrounds of the chill- out area at the rear of the bus.

As part of Volunteer Week, visiting local MP Alun Cairns got to join the group hard at work on their various projects and was impressed by their enthusiasm and dedication as well as the involvement of young people as the driving force of the Swoosh website.

Mr Cairns explained:

“It was great to be able to get involved with Swoosh, Vibe and the Vale Youth Service as part of Volunteers Week.  I was keen to help the group as they created various films, and I learnt a lot about the whole production process too!

“V-POD, the high tech, high spec, multimedia, entertainment and education centre on wheels is a great facility, and Vibe, the Barry based multimedia voluntary youth organisation works hard to develop new and adventurous ideas.

”Volunteers Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that volunteers make.  I want to pay tribute to Mike Bendell and Usha Parmar for their work in the community.

“I want to make sure that the young volunteers from the Vale who regularly contribute to society are recognised for their contribution.  More important however, is that they enjoy what they’re doing, and in so doing, inspire others to get involved too.”

Dominique LeSauteur, Editor of Swoosh, said she was delighted with the day as a whole and was especially impressed with the young people’s skills and motivation:

“The day was about celebrating the young people’s successes as well as learning new skills and working towards accreditation.”

The editorial group is celebrating a flourishing first year anniversary with new members continually joining the group as well as writing and uploading content. The young people volunteer hours of their time each month and their commitment is a truly valuable contribution to the first year success of the website.

Swoosh provides young people with information on a wide range of topics, services, issues and where to get support within the Vale of Glamorgan. The editorial Group meets once a month to steer the development of the site and upload content.

The website is always looking for new young members for the Editorial Group and the website itself.  If you want to find out more information about Swoosh and how to join check out www.swoosh.me.uk  or the Twitter and Facebook pages www.twitter.com/swooshme and www.facebook.com/swooshvale.

Alternatively you can contact the Editor Dominique LeSauteur on 01446 733622 ext 14.

Such a busy day...... totally inspiring though. YP's from Swoosh made 2 films, wrote 2 articles, met an MP, ate lots and chatted even more. Amazingly talented young people! Just goes to show - with a bit of imagination... the world's your oyster :)
