The message this week was loud and clear ‘Take part, take power!’. This is what Local Democracy Week is all about – young people of all ages, gender and background working together, being a part of decision making and believing in the power of their voice.

So you have all been voting in your masses whilst taking part in our LDW 2011 ‘On the Road’ tour or right here by logging into Swoosh. Every day this week LDW has been visiting a different school including Stanwell, Barry Comp, Bro Morgannwg and St Richard Gwyn.

On Monday all the Youth Champions took to the LDW tour campaigning for your votes and on Day 1 the candidates were neck and neck. Throughout the week some of the Councillors up for Youth Champion came to meet you at lunch times, answering your questions and queries. Can they deliver?

The votes kept coming thick and fast, going from over 500, to over 1000, 1300 and finally reaching over 1600 votes. These incredible numbers were reached in just 5 days of Local Democracy Week. By Day 3 a few of the candidates had started to take the lead and I could see the favourites emerging. This has been top secret and I had been sworn to secrecy.... until now!!!!

So before I go on.. and on... and on! I'm sure you all want to know who had the most votes and will be the Vale Youth Champion 2011-12?

Drum roll please!

Vale Youth Champion Winner 2011-12 is...

You might also like to know that the cinema was brought up in LDW 2011's Question Time. ( All the Q&A's have been posted LIVE on Swoosh this week too. Here is the Q&A about the cinema>>>

"Are we ever going to have a cinema in Barry? Megan, 12, Barry"

Response from Cllr R Traherne

I very much hope so. Councils don’t normally build and run cinemas, but there is a proposal from a business to run one at Barry Island. This is very good news indeed. At the moment we’re waiting for information from the applicant and then we can make a decision.

Got something to say?
