The Welsh subtitles on the manifestos of the youth champions aren’t quite suitable for young people. The language used was too formal. Why was this? Megan, 17, Penarth
Response by Cllr Janice Charles
Cabinet Member for Human Resources and Equalities
The manifestos were translated by a qualified Welsh translator. The language on the subtitles was a reflection of the use of the English in the manifestos, which dealt with political beliefs and what they would do if elected. It would have been irresponsible not to truly reflect the subject matter of the four candidates as these were their words and commitments to young people. In the case of the candidate who wore a face mask and used 'street' speak, this was reflected in the subtitles and wasn't as formal - again to be accurate and true to the tone.

Courses for young people need to be more advertised as often young people do not hear about them and therefore miss out on qualifications. The Crib youth club (Penarth Leisure centre)
Response by Cllr Tony Hampton
Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning
The Education service does provide a work experience programme in partnership with Careers Wales. We also prepare many young people for work through extended work experience and vocational learning. Also WG have just set aside £75m for this purpose.

Courses for young people should be easier to get to and transport should be arranged by the youth club or the government so young people are safer and know where they are going. What will you do about this? The Crib youth club (Penarth Leisure centre)
Response by Cllr Tony Hampton
Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning
We have recently run a youth leadership course where young people were taken to and from the venue. When ever possible we will do this. However again it’s down to available funding to be able to do so.

The Youth Service is preparing a social networking business case so they can make the activities and courses they organise more accessible to young people via facebook etc.
