Is It Really Just A Childhood Craze?
Who remembers Pokemon, Cartoon Network and Crazy Bones? Ok these things stop being cool when you’re nine. Who says that just because things aren’t cool that you can’t do them anymore? I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m nineteen years old and I love Pokemon!
You might think I’m sad and immature but that’s what I grew up with. You can’t just forget about things you used to love as a child. I remember my first game boy colour. My ninth Christmas, I was opening up the box to see a purple see-through game boy and Pokemon Yellow. I was so excited that I forgot about the rest of my presents.
You can’t just forget about things like that, childhood crazes make you who and what you are! If it wasn’t for Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon I don’t think I would have the same stupid sense of humour. Shows like Dexter’s Lab, Johnny Bravo and The Powerpuff Girls made my childhood. As I got older I watched Kenan and Kel and Saved By The Bell. They don’t make shows like they used to.
Now if you say you like these things you get made fun of. People think it is childish and immature, but I bet they have memories of things they loved as a child. As a young child I grew up watching Sesame Street, Rosie and Jim and The Magic Roundabout. Young people these days won’t really hear about these shows. Thanks to years of Sesame Street I have an unhealthy love for Elmo; I have about six Elmo teddies, DVD’s, videos and books. Ok, so you may think that's a bit sad, but you can’t deny that when your favourite childhood show comes on you don’t think back at the memories.
Young people now have good shows to watch but really the 90’s was the best time to be a cool kid! A Gameboy is outdated now with the new PSP and the DSI. But I would pick a good old Gameboy any day!
If you brought you’re Crazy Bones or your Pokemon cards to school you would be considered the coolest kid around. Now it’s who has the most expensive phone or the best I-Pod. Things used to be a lot simpler when I was a kid. I would love to go back to the 90’s again and relive all the different crazes. A lot of the shows I used to watch aren’t shown at all anymore!
So I think you should all go up into your attics, or to the back of your cupboards and dig out all your childhood toys and memories. I threw away a lot of my old toys and memories. I wish I didn’t because I could look back and think, ‘Wow, I was really cool kid!’.
