James Purefoy, British actor manages to successfully capture the attention (and hearts) of the audience as the redeeming bad boy Solomon Kane, in Michael J. Bassett's latest movie, Solomon Kane follows a 17th Century soldier, a soldier who’s dark and devious past and brutal actions have caused him to be number one on the devils wish list- his soul wanted.

Kane is determined to put his bad boy life style behind him, promising to live a life of peace and goodness. In Solomon’s attempt to find forgiveness and security he meets a family, who offer kind words and soothing looks, but with the devil on his tail this is not enough to keep the troubled man away from danger.

As the devil get’s closer to Solomon, the family who offered the sympathy and support the most are taken away by death all except for their beautiful daughter. It seems that for this former fighter, he has no chance to take up his sword and once again battle – in an attempt to save his damsel in distress.

I’ll be honest, this film wasn’t something I would normally watch, fighting and violence are not something I tend to be attracted to in films, and after watching the first couple of minutes it confirmed that this film choice definitely wasn’t for me. I also found the film a little confusing at times!

However, the film did improve as it developed. I grew to feel compassionate towards Purefoy’s character and wanted him things to turn out right for him. Although at times the plot was predictable (I won’t spoil the ending!) the fighting seemed realistic and was entertaining to watch.

If your after an action packed film then this is definitely for you! The opening scenes let it down slightly but the film does redeem its self later on. James certainly made us Britts proud with his acting skills and help to provide easy watching and listening. For me personally though, I think I’ll be sticking with my chick flicks in the future!
