FILM: Dear John - Love it or Hate it?
WARNING: contains plot spoilers!
Everyone has seen the trailer for Dear John on the telly and recently I went to see it and thought it was excellent, but my friend went to see it and thought it was really boring. I asked a few more people and it was sort of equal amounts of whether they loved it or hated it, what do you think?
The film is about a man called John who is in the American special forces, and he's on leave for two weeks so he goes to see his dad. Whilst he is at home a girl drops her bag in the sea from off the top of a pier, so John jumps in to get it. To thank him the girl invites him to her house for a drink and that's how he meets Savannah.
Over the two weeks John's at home, him and Savannah get together, but when he's about to leave Savannah tries telling John that she thinks his father is autistic and John gets really annoyed. He ends up getting into a fight with some of Savannah's friends and she sees this.
He wanted to apologise to her before he went back to the army but she isn't in, so her friend Tim gave John a piece of paper and a pen to write his apology and he said he would give it to Savannah for him. Later, Savannah went to John's father's house to see John, and because he wrote a letter, she wrote him one back. Savannah had to go back to school, and John to the army, so they decide to write letters.
After years of letter writing, John gets a letter of bad news; Savannah is engaged to Tim. That was the last letter either of them ever sent and John burnt every single letter he had from Savannah. Every opportunity John has to go home, he refuses it, even after getting shot he refuses to go home, but eventually he gets forced to as his father had a stroke.
John returns to visit his father in hospital and wrote him a letter to say how he feels. He eventually passes away, and John decides to go and see Savannah. It turns out that Savannah only got engaged to Tim because he had cancer, and she had to let John know through a letter because even the sound of his voice would have made her change her mind.
Later on Tim also passes away, and Savannah writes John a letter to say this, and one day John is walking past a cafe and Savannah is in the same one and they see each other again.
Of course the actual Dear John film is much better than that sounds, but from what I said do you love this film or hate it?

hey jess, 'Dear John' Hmm wasnt sure about this one, not usually my type of film. But im sure there will be an occasion to watch a film like this - a girly night in, sofa, popcorn and gossip. I f if watch it - you'll be the first to know :o)
