MUSIC | Pop Princess v’s Bad Boy Rapper
When you think of Mariah Carey you think of your ultimate girly girl, powerful voice, powerful connections and a hunger for success. Carey has been a big idol for many people both male and female since she first hit the spot light. She showed that she wasn’t just a pretty face- staying around for many years and constantly producing hit after hit causing her to be one of the most successful female of all time.
From the other side of the tracks you have Eminem- hardcore bad boy rapper. Eminem has offended many celebs making personal and judgemental comments about them, portraying them in a negative light and never been afraid not to rap about whatever is bothering him. Due to this, he’s had more fights than Mike Tyson and created a constant storm of enemies. Marshall (as he’s also known) is your ultimate boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Yet the slim shady rapper has still managed to create a storm of female fans, obsessed by his bad boy lifestyle and undeniable fit physique. And according to Marshall, one female fan that seemed to want a piece of Shady’s lifestyle, was none other than pop sensation Mariah Carey.
O.k. I couldn’t picture it either. Carey and Marshall? Surely not! What did this pair have in common? Carey is famous for her little outfits (and not so little voice) her girly girl domain, her almost perfectness! And then there’s Marshall baggy track suits, baseball cap and songs that feature at least one swear word in it. I guess opposites do attract and Marshall claimed that Mariah was addicted to his bad boy charms. She aint the only one Shady! He even made reference to Mariah in his single Superman “what you tryin' to be, my new wife, what you Mariah...”
Carey however was clearly not playing the same game as Marshall. Instead of being flattered that the hottest USA rapper was basically calling her his “wifey” she did the thing that most people are guilty of when they’ve cringed thinking about an ex partner. She denied everything! Carey claimed any relationship that had with Marshall was strictly professional and music related. When repeatedly questioned about the supposed “non professional relationship” that may have existed between her and Marshall she claimed that Marshall was a “fantasist”.
Feeling hurt and rejected that this previous lover was denying having any contact with him Marshall decided to take the matters further, bombarding the press with quotes such as “Yes, me and Mariah did have a relationship for about a good six, seven months...I wasn't really into what she was into. Our personalities collided. She's a diva, and I'm a little more regular, I guess.” Harsh words there. Marshall was waiting for a reaction from Mariah, and she gave him one. Just not the reaction he was expecting.
While her supposed ex-partner was making these claims, Carey determination to rebuff the claims became more apparent. She stuck to her guns and refused to acknowledge that any overly friendly relationship with Marshall had in fact happened. With the help of her single “Obsessed” Carey was cleverly able to depict the stormy relationship she has/had with Marshall. The video follows an obsessed stalker who makes untrue claims that he is having a sexual relationship with Carey, three guesses who this is supposed to be about! And just to avoid any further confusion the obsessed fan was a striking resemblance to the real slim shady, talk about rejection!
For Marshall, this was one insult too far and through music he once again hit back at the pop princess in his song –“The warning”- “ I'm obsessed now, oh gee! is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee, well Mariah..” He even claimed to have had photographical evidence of himself and Mariah as a couple –“Mariah did it ever occur to you that I still have pictures?”
After this song was released, things on Carey’s side went quite. They say opposites attract and clearly with Carey and Marshall you got your opposites! Don’t get me wrong I am a fan of Mariah and her ballads. Marshall is clearly not your typical clean cut boy that you would take home to meet the parents, but in this circumstance I have to say I am team Marshall!
O.k. so his language isn’t going to get him through finishing school any time soon and his “amusing” lyrics can be seen as rude by certain people, but really Mariah is there any need to totally deny having a relationship with him? Sure, your an innocent pop princess who sings about commitment and loving, and this could be seen as the most unlikely relationship of the year to some, but for me it’s a classic case of loving the bad boys!
Marshall, I’m sure I speak for a lot of girls when I say if the real slim shady wants to form a relationship with me, I’ll be more than happy to admit to it!

Well, that's a bit pathetic on Mariah's side, I don't see why it would affect her reputation, okay, Marshall's a bit of a bad boy, but that's just him speaking his mind. And I've got to agree, I don't think that there is a girl who'd deny being in a relatioship with him (:
