Hi, I had a great day at Europe`s biggest bird watching fair at Rutland Water near Oakham, Leicestershire. It just gets bigger every year! There’s a lot to see and do; 7 marquees to mooch round, events to go to etc and it’s a great day for birders! I met TV presenter Jonny Kingdom again and he`s really nice. In another marquee I met TV presenter Nick Baker, who I’d met before, who was selling his book about bugs on his stand.

He had a bug box on his stand and I asked what was in it and he said a Dor beetle. I couldn’t see it so he took the grass out and showed me the beetle which I`d never seen before. It was a member of the dung beetle family and was a beautiful creature. It was a lovely metallic blue, purple and gold. Nick had found it in the marquee and was to let it go later. I couldn’t get to hear TV presenter Simon king this year as it was full in the events tent. More people than ever had come to this years’ fair.

I saw the Rutland ospreys on web cam and they had raised 9 chicks this year-a very good year. I had a super day and now can’t wait for next year`s fair!
