Yn Gymraeg

Despite its delayed release due to the London riots a few weeks ago, here is a work of sheer wizardry from the music aficionado and excellence that is Charlie Simpson.

The entire album is one long dreamy stream of consciousness that absorbs the British Summer weather, and consequentially blossoms into a delicate and well-produced indie-folk composition of sheer bliss. Succulent, rounded, soft and luscious; every song is beautifully crafted and enchantingly gorgeous.
Singles ‘Parachutes’ and ‘Down Down Down’ are not to be dismissed as boring, bland underdogs of the download charts – each have their own particular charm, with an almost soulful undercurrent to the  latter of this dazzling pair.

I particularly like ‘All At Once’, for the rhythm and interesting composition choices. Check out ‘I Need a Friend Tonight’, definitely a must-have to any respectable folk lover’s collection. This album is definitely suited to fans of Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons, and ‘The First Days of Spring’-era Noah & the Whale. Perfect to let time drift by seamlessly. Not to be missed.

Oh, and as a bonus – you can download a free EP from Charlie Simpson (which includes three of the songs from the album) for FREE on Facebook (simply search ‘Charlie Simpson’), and also ‘Cemetery’ is iTunes Free Track of the Week. Score!

Hey bearshead - I like your review! I was really taken back by this and Charlie Simpsons music. Its very easy listening and his voice is so earthy, I can see myself enjoying this album.
