There are two types of college, sixth form and further education (FE).
-
Sixth Form colleges provide courses for students aged 16-19 and FE colleges offer courses for both young people and adults.
-
Colleges are usually bigger than schools and you will have the chance to meet new people and make new friends.
-
In college you will be expected to take more responsibility for managing your own time, but there will still be help and support if you need it. Student Services in college can give you help if you have problems on your course, with personal issues or money.
-
You can usually wear casual clothes, but some courses may demand you wear certain clothing e.g. overalls or a college tracksuit.
-
Colleges offer a wide range of courses including AS and A Level courses and the chance to re-take GCSEs. The choice of work related courses is usually greater than in school sixth forms.
