Day 3 – Saturday 6th August. Well, day 3 came along and a little bit of rain first thing in the morning didn’t dampen the spirits of those taking part in a little relaxing session of Tai Chi. There were many adults taking park which was good to see, and they certainly put a lot of energy into their moves! After the chilled-out moves of the Far East came the more energetic workshop and performance of contemporary dance with UDO Live and Motion Control Dance, who took to the stage to cheering shouts and screams from the crowd.

Things then took another Eastern turn with the stunning and elegant performance from India Dance Wales. The ladies moves were so graceful and poised, and her costume was covered in jewels and bells that sparkled in the sun. It was a really special performance. Many of the crowd got up and tried out some moves themselves, and it was really good to see so many young people try something new.

After the charms of India came the cool of YDance and the Bryn Hafren Dolls who’s energetic and lively performance wowed the crowds and got everyone in the mood for a dance off. The Hip-Hop and House dance taster sessions were hugely popular, and everyone from 5 to maybe not quite 50 joined in and shook off those summer cobwebs.

As if we hadn’t been transported around the world enough, The Desert Divas put on a fantastic show of Middle Eastern Belly Dancing wowing everyone with their beautiful moves. Their costumes were just as jingly and bright as India Dance Wales, which added and authentic air to their performance. The end of the day’s dance sessions saw a dance off with so much energy and swagger that it put Cher Lloyd to shame! There was breakdancing, body popping and Hip Hop moves galore, with everyone trying to outdo each other with moves and grooves.

The evening saw a change of pace with live bands taking centre stage to rock the crowd into the night. Local cover band The Shamones kicked off the music with their amazing covers of The Ramones classics including Sheena is a Punk Rocker, Pin Head and Judy is a Punk. With everyone’s ears suitably ringing, The Queue gave us some retro Alt-Indie sounds and local band Brother Steve closed the show with their catchy Rock ‘n’ Roll tunes and melodic indie sound.

Sadly the evening had to end at 9.30pm but the vibe certainly lasted well into the night. It was an awesome day of dance and music and the huge crowds who came along throughout the day and took part made the event even more fantastic. Here’s to the next Central Park Live!
